Retro Lane Drive-In
Retro Lane is a drive-in movie theatre I imagined for my senior capstone project. As an avid film lover, I wanted to create a brand that added sociability back to the movie-watching experience.
Branding Strategy: In this generation of media streaming services, how could something as old-school as a drive-in theatre make a comeback and capture the attention of a wide-range audience?
I decided to focus the brand on the concept of nostalgia. To do this, I designed my brand with an attention-grabbing color palette, evocative typefaces, and retro-inspired illustration styles. In a time of shiny and new, I wanted to make the brand’s presence a resurgence of something lost.
One requirement of this project was to create and example of product packaging. Since my brand was a venue, I had to figure out how to materialize a product that made sense. The take-home milkshake kit was created to be sold at the concession stand as a unique form of memoribilia.
To set this drive-in apart from the few left in the U.S., the brand’s USP is having permanently parked classic cars available to rent for the duration of the movie. Car service would be provided to customers who rented vehicles. The menu includes an inter-changeable ticket that lists promotional concession items for popular feature films.
This mockup was created to show the landing page for site visitors. The second screen of the home page is for customers to choose which location they are interested in visiting in order to see specific showing times and specials.
The above website pages are the two most significant pages of the website: the “showings” page (left) and the car rentals page (right). These pages allow guests to purchase tickets and rent vehicles.
